Pepperl+Fuchs now offers the robust WCS position encoding system with an IO-Link interface. Commissioning and replacing the optical sensor for reliable absolute positioning in I4.0 applications is even easier, and comprehensive data sets are available for predictive maintenance. Universal fieldbus connection is possible with an IO-Link master.

The new system variant WCS3B-LS810 has the same dimensions as the existing devices of the WCS system. This means that previously installed code rails, mechanics and accessories (e.g. outdoor housings and carriages) can continue to be used without restriction. The IO-Link absolute positioning system is available in three versions: standard, with a display, and with an outdoor housing and heating for outdoor use down to minus 40 °C.

The new series is compatible with the i550 Motec frequency inverter from Lenze with IO-Link master function and enables direct position processing via IO-Link. Additional sensors for acceleration and temperature measurement are integrated in the WCS read head. In addition to data on position and speed, the sensor thus provides information such as acceleration values in three axes or a direction bit.

The read head can also be used for identification of individual mobile components, for example. Up to 1280 code band sections are reliably recognized and output as an ID number. With a dynamically configured preset value, any code band sections can also be used for positioning.
