Intelligent drive technology – research priorities at the LAT, including artificial intelligence-based thermal monitoring
A data-driven condition monitoring approach based on machine learning enables precise real-time temperature estimation of critical components in electric motors with minimal physical sensor use. Based on 160 hours of test bench measurement data and feature engineering, the model achieves accuracy within just a few degrees of deviation from real conditions.
In addition to protecting against thermal overload, this digital twin enables more compact designs, improved resource efficiency, enhanced performance, greater energy efficiency in dynamic cycles and a reduction in electronic waste through reduced physical hardware.
