EtherCAT Position Comparison Trigger

Description

The ETX-R41K111C EtherCAT motion controller is for high-precision, real-time control of complex multi-axis systems, offering unparalleled performance for demanding applications. It features dual encoder inputs for two-dimensional compare triggering, providing precise coordination when both Axis1 and Axis2 enter the defined tolerance area. This triggers automatic signal output and seamlessly loads the next target from the point array, ensuring continuous operation. Perfect for high-speed applications such as optical inspection "on-the-fly" and dispensing, the ETX-R41K111C delivers superior accuracy, making it an essential tool for inspection and high-performance environments.

Features:

  • axis control configurations: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 Axes
  • support both Windows and Linux
  • supports C/C+ and C# development environments.
  • supports standard Ethernet and RS485 interfaces without occupying IPC slots
  • 2-channel, 32-bit E/A/EB Encoder input: supports CW/CCW and PULSE/DIR modes with max. frequency of 4MHz.
  • Encoder input (2 channel, 32-bit EA/EB): includes CW/CCW and PULSE/DIR modes, with a max. frequency of 4MHz.. Supports 4xAB phase Mode at 9.8 MHz. max
  • Latch Input: 2 channels, 1024 points per channel, 10KHz frequency

TRIGGER MODES:

  • Automatic Trigger: Max. freq. of 1MHz. with unlimited counts.
  • Table trigger: Configurable up to 4096 points for customized sequences
  • Toggle trigger: supports configurations of up to 4096 points, with options

The ETX-R41K111C stands out with its advanced path planning capabilities. It uses spline interpolation to automatically calculate optimized velocity and acceleration profiles, ensuring smooth, continuous motion. This allows the controller to precisely plan and execute trajectories that pass through all specified points, minimizing disruptions and enabling uninterrupted operation. Whether used for precision machining or real-time optical inspection, the ETX-R41K111C excels at coordinating multi-axis movements for seamless, efficient performance across a range of complex applications.

WORKING DEMO:

At the booth of Dynetics (Hal 4-490) the supplier demonstrates the performances of this Multi-Axis Control product in an active alignment system completed with their EtherCAT 5-Phase Stepper Driver (STP-K5241A) with Position Compensation.

This opens up broad adaptability for machinery builders looking for seamless scalability across multiple axes.

Shaft motors with contactless magnetic counterweight

Shaft motors with contactless magnetic counterweight

When shaft motors are used vertically, a counterweight is required to compensate for the gravitational effect. Without a counterweight, the motor shaft would fall down in the de-energized state. In conventional designs, the spring counterweight is a critical component because the spring ages over time and requires special attention to maintenance. A new, maintenance-free counterweight called gLESS uses magnetic force and enables uniform movement. The counterweight realizes a stable movement and is maintenance-freeCompared to the spring counterweight, the magnetic counterweight offers the following advantages:

  • The "spring constant" does not change even after many years of use.
  • The shaft does not fall down without current.
  • Almost no scattering of magnetic flux
  • Compact solution in combination with the manufacturer's shaft motor.
  • Constant balancing force.
  • Non-contact function ensures that there is no maintenance.

The gLess series is available in 3 sizes in diameter (Ø13; Ø18; Ø18mm), and covers force ranges of 2.66; 6.1 and 19.6N, with a working stroke of 40 mm. The gLESS components are designed as a non-contact solution and can be mounted very close to the shaft motor.

NEW: Based on the scale-free linear motor SX060, manufacturer NPM has launched a complete linear motor unit on the market, which is equipped with gLESS counterweight. The linear motor does not require an external encoder and has almost no magnetic leakage fluxes, which means that compact applications with more than one motor with a distance of only 9mm can be realized

Reliable magnet replacement and more compact stepper motors.

Supplier Nidec (distributed by Dynetics) announced several impressive successes for its hybrid stepper motors, including a reliable magnet replacement and the realization of a more compact size.

China has introduced export restrictions on neodymium magnets and related rare earth elements, requiring a mandatory government license for export since April 2025. This measure will cause significant disruptions to the global supply chain, leading to longer delivery times, potential shortages of high-power magnets, and higher costs worldwide. In addition, shipments containing certain heavy rare earths require a mandatory, individual approval process, which can further extend delivery times.

To mitigate the consequences of the risks of these export restrictions, the supplier is prompting Nidec to implement robust compliance solutions for its products.

Supplier Nidec reported that it completed its tests on the stepper motors with a new neodymium magnet that does not contain dysprosium (Dy) and gadolinium (Gd) and concluded that this new material did not show any significant change in performance compared to the traditional stepper motors. This success allows the supplier to expand the list of permitted uses, making the supplier less dependent on available sources and avoiding the impact of Chinese export regulations on magnets,

Thanks to the optimized design of the rotor, the manufacturer Nidec has succeeded in realizing a more compact size of the motor. Compared to comparable stepper motors in industry, the stepper motors of the KV42 and KF42 enable significantly higher performance in a more compact package. Instead of the previous length of 48 mm, these motors have a length of only 42 mm. The motors with the previous length of 42mm will be reduced to 39mm, etc. The KF42 even achieves a higher torque.

Other benefits include higher limiting torque, more holding torque, high speed, minimal noise, precision windings, high rigidity, and improved motor dynamics. According to the manufacturer, this means that the engines of the KV42 and KF42 series have the highest power density in their class. The motors are manufactured in versions with plugs or free cable ends. Customizations are possible at the customer's request.
