The SAMA7G54-EK evaluation kit is intended for evaluating and prototyping with the SAMA7G54 microprocessor. The SAMA7G54 is a high-performance, ultra-low power Arm Cortex-A7 based embedded microprocessor (MPU) running up to 1GHz. It supports multiple memories such as 16-bit DDR2, DDR3, DDR3L, LPDDR2, LPDDR3, octal/quad SPI and e.MMC Flash. The SAMA7G54 integrates complete imaging and audio subsystems with 12-bit parallel and/or MIPI-CSI2 camera interfaces up to 8 Mp and 720p @ 60 fps, up to four I2S, one SPDIF transmitter and receiver and a 4-stereo channel audio sample rate converter. The device also features a large number of connectivity options with Dual Ethernet (one Gigabit ethernet and one 10/100 Ethernet), six CAN-FD and three high-speed USB and offers advanced security functions such as: secure boot, secure key storage, high-performance crypto accelerators for AES, SHA, RSA and ECC.

The SAMA7G54-EK board itself features connectors and expansion headers for easy customization and quick access to leading edge embedded features such as Mikroelektronica click boards and Raspberry Pi expansion header plus MIPI CSI camera. The kit is supported by mainline Linux distribution as well as bare metal software frameworks and RTOS allowing you to easily get started with your development. The kit includes an on-board Embedded Debugger, eliminating the need for external tools to program or debug.

The LAN8650/1 combines a Media Access Controller (MAC) and an Ethernet PHY to enable low‑cost microcontrollers, including those without an onboard MAC, to access 10BASE‑T1S networks. The common standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) of the LAN8650/1 allows interfacing with nearly any microcontroller, so that the transfer of Ethernet packets and LAN8650/1 control/status commands are performed over a single, serial interface. SPI also requires only 4 pins, enabling a simpler hardware interface with fewer pins than MII or RMII.

Ethernet packets are segmented and transferred over the serial interface according to the OPEN Alliance 10BASE‑T1x MAC‑PHY Serial Interface specification. The serial interface protocol can simultaneously transfer both transmit and receive packets between the station controller and the LAN8650/1. Packets are typically stored within the LAN8650/1 before being forwarded to either the station microcontroller or to the network. Alternatively, packets may be transferred in a cut-through mode for applications needing reduced latency.
