Description
We show how interoperability, sustainability and artificial intelligence (AI) are revolutionizing automation using concrete examples from current publicly funded (national and international) research projects with partners from industry and academia.
- Interoperability: Interoperability is the basis for the metaverse and digital twins. We rely on proven standards such as Asset administration shell (AAS), AutomationML (AML), Functional Mockup Interface (FMI), and OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) to ensure seamless collaboration between systems and are actively involved in their development.Here, we present our recently completed DIAMOND research project (https://diamond-project.de/) and the ongoing DigiKleb research project, showing how the standards are used in combination.
- Sustainability: Our solutions not only promote transparency in consumption and emissions, but are also aimed at saving resources and innovative production concepts, including closed-loop concepts. These concepts are optimally supported by digital technologies. Here, we present our EU research project MODAPTO (https://modapto.eu/) and show how FMUs are used as virtual energy sensors.
- Artificial intelligence: AI plays a central role in automation. We use rule-based systems, machine learning methods and large language models to simplify processes in engineering, during virtual commissioning, and parallel to operation of production plants and make them more efficient. Here, we present our ongoing research project Werk 4.0 (https://wvsc.berlin/projekt/werk4-0/) and demonstrate how ontologies and LLMs (also in combination) support change management of data and information in plant engineering and operation.
