Shortron Connect with M12 connection

Shortron Connect with M12 connection

Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. KG is expanding its SHORTRON family with a variant featuring an M12 connection attached directly to the actuator. SHORTRON Connect thus meets the growing demand for compact, industrial-grade M12 solutions.

Quick and easy

In addition to costs, time and safety are also important factors in project planning. SHORTRON Connect enables simple, quick, and error-free installation, as the M12 locking technology prevents reverse polarity – in line with the Plug&Work principle: plug it in and get started. No additional contact element is required, as it is already integrated into the switch.

All-round protection

There is no need for a separate housing, as the IP65/IP67 protection classes offer protection against water and dust from both the front and rear. This saves costs and space – especially with the ergonomic mounting brackets for 40 mm profile rails. With 90° brackets for vertical mounting and 135° brackets for horizontal mounting, actuators can be positioned flexibly or existing operating stations can be expanded. For this purpose, the mounting brackets are available in three different versions, each with 1, 2, or 3 mounting holes.

Small with style

With an installation depth of just 33.7 mm (emergency stop 26.7 mm), SHORTRON Connect remains extremely compact and is ideal for machines, panels, and control units with limited space. The familiar flat design has been retained. Front frames are available in silver, black, or stainless steel.

Powerful and versatile

The range includes an indicator light, pushbuttons, illuminated ring pushbuttons, selector and key switches, and an emergency stop.

For illuminated devices, different colored button caps or identification plates are available, which can also be changed when installed.
The switches with 4-pin M12 connection are available as normally open, normally closed/normally open, or double normally open.

The emergency stop is available as a double normally open (4- or 5-pin with AIDA assignment) or as a double normally open with normally open (5-pin). All M12 connections are A-coded.
The selector and key switches are available with 2 or 3 switching positions, latching or momentary.
The electrical characteristics: Ue up to 35 V, le 2–4 A depending on the version.

Integrated display in a pushbutton

Integrated display in a pushbutton

The Flexitast pushbutton is a first of its kind pushbutton and will be presented at the SPS in Nuremberg. This pushbutton is an innovative pushbutton with integrated display that was designed for dynamic control and signaling requirements. This solution combines an actual pushbutton with a 72 x 72 pixel display enabling a flexible depiction of symbols and texts that can be updated in real time.

The centerpiece of the Flexitast is a purpose-made 72 x 72 pixels ZBD display. Exclusively produced for SCHLEGEL, the display offers the best resolution and keeps the display data visible even without power supply. The dimensions of the display are 26.5 x 26.5 mm to ensure that the symbol/text can be seen from afar.

The RGB illumination makes it possible to adapt the display output to various statuses or design requirements. That way, if needed, symbols and texts can be highlighted by background colour which is ideal for complex control systems when differing states have to be visually noticeable.

Due to its robust design and the protecting glass panel, the Flexitast is durable and reliable even in demanding conditions. Burn-in of the display as known in other technologies cannot occur.

Flexitast can be used as a single button, but its full potential shows when used as a system, for which up to 128 Flexitast buttons can be combined. This enables high scalability for complex control requirements and is especially useful for bigger control systems.

The Flexitast is also suitable for rough working conditions, thanks to its robust design. It has a degree of protection of IP65 and a lifetime of 1 million switching cycles. The operating temperature ranges from -10 °C to +50 °C. The operating travel of the Flexitast is 3 mm and the contact block is tactile, with 2 NO contacts. It is operated with an operating voltage of 24 V.

Effective protection of open interfaces

Effective protection of open interfaces

Unprotected interfaces on machines, like USB ports and Ethernet interfaces, may become an open gate for malware or data manipulation. In order to avoid this, 2BSecure was developed. With this system, the interfaces will be deactivated by default, limiting the acces to authorised personnel. A manual activation via key switch or RFID ensures that only authorised persons can activate the interface and thus enabling data transmission. The limitation to authorised personnel furthermore not only protects the machine control, but also sensible data within the whole network.

2BSecure was developed as a compact black box solution that is being installed between the interface and the end device. The black box is usually well protected within the machine, so there are no particular technical requirements for degree of protection and temperature. The connection is provided via a connection block with a rated voltage of 24 V, as is typical for the usual end systems. The interfaces fulfil the normal requirements for USB-A, USB-C and Ethernet. The dimensions of the black box are very compact with 50 x 60 x 17 mm.

2BSecure can be implemented without great effort in exsting machine and IT infrastructures. The control of the black box is conducted through the end device which guarantees a seamless and user-friendly implementation. 2BSecure can also be adjusted to different requirements and applications areas, be it the manufacturing industry, energy sector or critical infrastructure.

High legal protection requirements
With the control of open interfaces, 2BSecure contributes to comply with the strict requirements of the new EU machine directive 2027 as well as the NIS ("Network and Information Security") 2.0 directive of the EU. Those obligate companies that work in manufacturing, the energy or transportation sector to prove that their machines and networks are protected against unauthorised access.
