Encoders redundant - machine safety
Encoders redundant
Wachendorff Automation combines its core competencies of optical and magnetic sensor technology in a 58 mm housing.Safety for your machine
- Robust redundancy industrial encoder
- Protection class IP67, at the shaft IP65
- High interference immunity
- High bearing loads: up to 220 N radial / 120 N axial
- 2 full-fledged encoders in one housing
- Diversity through 2 measuring principles - optical / magnetic
- High performance level achievable in combination with safe controllers or e.g. safe speed monitors
Diversity- and yet perfectly matched to each other
By using our sensor systems, which have been tried and tested over many years and developed
in-house, we focus on extreme reliability. For more than 20 years we have experience in the development of incremental optical encoders and for 10 years we have been developing magnetic incremental and absolute encoders.
This enables us to produce not only one redundant encoder, but a variety of redundant encoders that are perfectly matched to each other. Diversity means that we specifically increase reliability by using different measuring principles and as few identical components as possible. The basic idea behind this approach is that the different sensor platforms also react with different sensitivities or insensitively to disturbances of any kind and therefore do not fail simultaneously, so that the post connected electronics can reliably detect this possible failure.
High performance levels and lower costs
For the implementation of a safety function in accordance with e.g. Performance Level d or SIL 3, not all components necessarily have to meet the safety requirements directly. Often the required safety level can be achieved with redundant information and the appropriate control system. In concrete terms, our redundant standard encoders provide diverse (magnetic and optical) signals that are generated completely independently of each other, but can still be correlated with each other. Even the supply voltage is available separately for each sensor unit. Almost all safety-related control or monitoring systems have conventional inputs. This makes it possible to use inexpensive standard components with high-quality redundant encoders from a process-controlled assembly and to achieve the required safety level cost-effectively.
MTTFd - for your planning
To be able to use non-certified devices in your application to perform safety-related tasks, you must observe a few things. For example, during mechanical assembly, you must ensure that the two shafts to be connected to each other have a form fit in order to reliably prevent slippage. The MTTFd value (Mean Time To Dangerous Failure) also plays a major role. We will provide you with this value.

Encoder WDGN ... every pulse from 1 ppr to 16,384 ppr configurable via NFC.
Incremental encoders configurable via Smartphone (NFC)
- HTL/TTL and PPR configurable via NFC
- 36 mm to 58 mm housing and up to 16,384 ppr configurable via Smartphone
- Due to high quality electronics any number of pulses up to 16,384 via NFC configurable
- HTL/TTL via NFC configurable
- Protection class IP67, at shaft input IP65 or IP67/IP69K
- High output frequency up to 1 MHz
- Reverse polarity protection and short-circuit protection at 4.75 VDC to 32 VDC
The new series of WDGN incremental encoders allow you to configure any number of pulses from 1 ppr to 16,384 ppr via NFC. Depending on the Basic or Advanced version, other parameters can be set.
Simply download the App to your smartphone, set the desired parameters and configure the encoder without contact or without supplied power, even through the packaging.
You have the possibility to adapt the encoder quickly and intuitively to your individual application. Once the configurations of an encoder have been created, they can be saved with different names, load them again at any time and transfer them to another encoder. This allows stored configuration sets to be used for the encoder in different applications. After entering the PIN you can read out the configuration set of an encoder at any time, save it, share it and continue using it for other encoders. For security we use the principle of PIN and PUK, like with your mobile phone provider.

WDGA absolute encoder ... robust and durable, state-of-the-art technologies
WDGA absolute encoderRobust and durable, state-of-the-art technologies
We place the greatest valueon robustness, longevity and the use of state-of-the-art technologies. These are the parameters that distinguish our developments, as with the WDGA series absolute encoders.
As far as Wachendorff is concerned, only a magnetic solution is good enough to meet these fundamental requirements, both to determine the number of steps (single-turn) and for the revolution counter (multi-turn).
The WDGA series magnetic encoders are considerably less sensitive to vibrations which constantly occur in machines and systems than in the case with optical absolute encoders with a drive unit.
Despite their compact design, the WDGA encoders outperform optical systems with drive technology by a high factor.
Used across all industries around the world
Wachendorff’s WDGA series of absolute encoders are used worldwide in wind turbines, mobile work machines, medical equipment, cranes, packaging or filling machines and even in aircraft.
World record holder:the most compact encoder with connection housing
We have achieved the world’s most compact axial and radial design with the WDGA 58F design. This gives valuable savings in installation space. The extremely high bearing loads guarantee a long service life and high stability.
In addition to its outstanding mechanical properties, we use the latest electronic components and – it goes without saying – the latest communication and encoder profiles

WDGI encoder ... the incremental industry standard
WDGI encoder ... the incremental industry standard
WDGI encoder - the incremental industry standard
- Robust standard industrial encoder
- Die-cast aluminium housing with particularly eco-friendly powder coating
- Up to 25,000 pulses thanks to high-quality electronics
- Protection class of IP67; shaft sealet to IP65
- Immunity to interference
- Extremely high bearing load: up to 500 N in axial / radial direction
- Maximum mechanical and electrical safety
- Full connection protection at 10 VDC up to 30 VDC
- High output frequency of up to 600 kHz / 2 MHz
- Operating temperature with connector outlet: -40 °C to +85 °C
- Optional: pressure compensation membrane
Modern industrial design and excellent technical properties
Extended temperature range:
The operating temperature range of the WDGI standard encoder with connector outlet is -40 °C and +85 °C. This extended temperature range can be implemented as an option for encoders with cable outlet, thereby widening the possible range of applications without shortening the encoder‘s service life.
Maximum pulse frequencies: 600 kHz to 2 MHz
The WDGI encoders offer the option of working at pulse rates from 1,000 ppr with pulse frequencies of up to 600 kHz (TTL) or 2 MHz (HTL). Consequently, high pulse rates can be deployed at high speeds, considerably increasing the machine‘s measurement accuracy at high throughput rates.
Choice of materials and processing with a view to environmental compatibility
The encoder cover is made of die-cast aluminium. So, unlike the die-cast zinc cover which is commonly used on the market, the housing‘s eco-friendly powder coating can be maintained. Customers can therefore choose the colour they‘d like with a clear conscience.
Clever option: self-adhesive membrane
This membrane guarantees that the encoder is highly reliable, even when temperatures change quickly – during use in mobile work machines or generally in high air humidity, for example. In spite of the membrane, the encoders retain their high protection class of up to IP67 and are still resistant to harsh environmental conditions.
Maximum bearing loads: 500 N
The heavy-duty variant WDGI58D offers a standard bearing load of 500 N each in the axial and radial load directions. The encoder therefore also has sufficient reserves even when faced with extreme shaft loads, which is decisive for a long service life. A long tool life and low maintenance costs are guaranteed.
