In addition to linear drives, FGB specifically develops and produces rotative drive systems in the shape of torque motors. These are usually multi-pole electrical direct drives from the group of slow runners. Torque motors therefore often have a very high torque at relatively low speeds.

The FGB torque motors are designed as outer rotors (stator inside, Rotor=’Rotors’ outside) and as inner rotors (rotor inside, stator outside). This means that the design of the drive can be adapted optimally to the respective technical requirements.

To boost the performance of the direct drives, FGB develops cooling systems that are perfectly tuned to the motor and intervene precisely where the heat is created. These leads to higher efficiency and better performance. This is usually implemented by means of active fan or liquid cooling. Here, the company can fall back on extensive experience from various applications.

FGB develops high-performance transversal flow drives, e.g. as linear drives that are designed to customer specifications. In addition, the company also designs and produces rotative systems based on the transversal flow technology.

FGB has specialised in greatly simplifying the production of these systems which is one of the reasons why they can be implemented widely in practice.

Today, transversal flow drives can be produced simply and inexpensively, and are perfectly suited for use on long paths.

Linear motors are used as direct drives wherever excellent dynamics and precision are required. The customer-specific alignment of the direct drives by FGB allows linear motors to be adapted ideally to the conditions of the respective machine and integrated. If necessary, we also use unusual forms and materials to achieve the best possible result for our customers.

FGB’s performance range covers the entire process chain: Calculation, production and development of linear motors are carried out in close cooperation with the customer. FGB supplies both individual components, in the shape of primary and secondary parts, and also as complete linear motor axles and systems.

Generally, motors by FGB stand out thanks to their compact design and high-power density. If there is sufficient cooling, the direct drives can reach a thrust of up to 12N/cm2. Different speeds and DC link voltages are realised with corresponding coils. FGB can also fall back on its experience with short and long stators.

In direct drives, the motor is connected directly to the operating machine. In this way, direct drives avoid most mechanical transmission elements between the motor and operating machine. For instance, there are no components such as belts or transmissions. Wear, noise, maintenance expenses and the impact of mechanical batches is reduced significantly. The number of parts and the associated space requirements for a drive system are reduced significantly.

The higher system rigidity of direct drives allows extremely precise positioning. High acceleration values guarantee much shorter cycle times. Direct drives are primarily designed with permanent magnet excitation and stand out thanks to a high torque (torque motor) and/or high thrust (linear motor). FGB direct drives already have full torque and full thrust at standstill, and make this available throughout the entire rpm and speed range.

FGB is not only a leading manufacturer of direct drives, it also develops and builds high-performance and energy efficient generators for small power plants (up to 100kW) based on permanently excited synchronous machines. An electrical generator is the name given to a system that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. The company produces both rotative and also translational operating generators.

The benefit of synchronous generators compared to asynchronous machines lies in the fact that these have good part load behaviour in connection with corresponding power electronics. This allows very high levels of efficiency to be achieved even in operating points that vary greatly from the rated range.
