Über uns
With over 110 years experience in metal working and 60 years of pioneering spirit in plastic injection molding technology - Framo Morat and F. Morat, the companies of the Franz Morat Group with headquarters in the Black Forest, have been providing drives for numerous industries for generations. With over 700 employees and subsidiaries in the USA, Poland, Mexico and Turkey, we generate sales of € 100 million.
We develop and realize drive ideas from spur gears over hub gears and wheel hube drives, planetary gears and worm gears, up to complete gear motors. We are from research & development, prototyping & testing, up to assembling and serial manufacturing your reliable partner in drive technology. A key unique selling point of the Franz Morat Group is the combination of the advantages of metals and plastics.
Our product range of geared precision parts includes rotor shafts, gears with internal and external teeth as well as pinions and chain sprockets that we produce according to individual customer requests for both straight and angled gearing. In the field of plastic injection molding, we develop and manufacture customized solutions for individualized tasks. Whether gear parts, metal/plastic connections, assemblies or technical parts, we have been applying our expertise in precision injection molding for over 60 years. Our worm gear sets cover a wide range of applications. We demonstrate our years of experience and high level of capacity by producing more than 1 million worm gear sets every year in-house, most of which are created according to custom specifications. Our drive systems consist of hub gears and wheel hub drives, planetary gears, shaft-mounted gear motors, linear actuators and push/pull actuators, which are custom-adapted to the customer’s requirements according to a modular principle. Furthermore, we develop and produce individual drive solutions according to the customer specification. Here, our customers benefit from Framo Morat’s decades of experience in designing and implementing application-specific drives.

speeroX – Smart. Silent. Space-saving.
An electric motor provides high speeds at a relatively low torque. To set loads into motion, gears are used that convert the rotary motion provided by the electric motor into a motion that is slower, but also more powerful. The classics among the high-transmission gears are multi-stage spur and planetary gear sets or bevel and worm gear sets if an angled arrangement is necessary. Oftentimes, combinations of the listed variants are used.
Depending on the application, increasingly stringent requirements for the degree of efficiency, service life, operating noise and installation space sometimes push conventional gear variants to the limit. Multi-stage spur and planetary gear sets consist of many components. Bevel gear sets are loud and require at least one downstream gear stage. Worm gear sets lose power and their service life is diminished by friction. This is where the high-transmission speeroX gear set developed by Framo Morat comes into play.
Benefits at a glance:
- High performance particularly when there is only one direction of rotation through the preferred flank
- High degree of efficiency through friction reduction due to favorable kinematic conditions
- Low noise emission due to high proportion of sliding parts
- Long service life and high power density through special wear-free steel/steel pairing
- Reduced installation space thanks to separation of the wheel and worm screw
- Low weight and easier installation through low number of components (wheel and worm screw)
- High gear ratio and power flow around the corner in only one stage
Thinking laterally – High gear ratio in only one stageThe speeroX gear set relocates the gearing of the wheel to the flat side. This results in a spiral gearing that is driven by a modified worm screw. The spatial arrangement reduces the installation space. It also creates favorable kinematic conditions that reduce the friction. The gearing is nevertheless still quiet thanks to the high proportion of sliding parts. A special wear-free steel/steel pairing withstands the high proportion of sliding parts and increases the service life.In the right application, the speeroX gear set beats conventional multi-stage gears in terms of the gear ratio. It is quiet and features high efficiency with a long service life. And all this in only one gear stage with a reduced weight and installation space, consisting of just two components that make installation easier.X-plore your opportunities – Customized design and developmentIn the right application, the benefits compared to classic gear variants become clear when the requirement profile and area of use are precisely defined during the design phase. For example, the gear geometry of speeroX enables especially high performance when only one direction of rotation is required.

Hub gears I Wheel hub drive
With unattended operation around the clock, automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in warehouses, parcel distribution centers, and production halls ensure maximum efficiency and reliability in distributing goods, packaging materials, and components. Dynamic hub gears form the basis of these versatile AGV fleets, meeting high standards for transport speed, positioning accuracy, and service life. Reliable, compact hub gears from Framo Morat are designed for various wheel loads.
The hub gears are available in the NG250 and NG500 variants, in single- and double-stage versions with polyurethane wheels. Custom adaptations, such as brush seals for outdoor applications or toothed belts for high-bay warehouses, can also be made.
In addition to our platform hub gears, we are introducing the power pack NG750, which will officially launch at LogiMAT in March 2025. At our booth, you will discover the diverse applications and numerous advantages of this compact and powerful gear family, including:
- Compact design through integration of the planetary stage into the wheel
- High radial loads through direct force transmission into the vehicle frame
- Long service life & low noise emissions through separation of the gear and wheel
- Short delivery times & efficiency through the gear platform
- Maintenance-friendly design, e.g., with the option for easy wheel replacement
For standard variants and wheel loads, the modular design of the NG250 and NG500 hub gears offers maximum flexibility in connecting motors, brakes, and control systems. Various PU materials and wheel sizes are available for different application areas.
Framo Morat has also developed a highly integrated wheel hub drive that combines all functional elements, such as the wheel, a high-precision planetary gear, a powerful electric motor and a brake and electronics, into one all-inclusive solution. This modular and scalable system boasts high performance in a compact design and lets users make adaptations to the load capacity, torque, interfaces, sensor system and control profiles.

Customized drives - using the example of the 3-axis drive system for curved stairlifts.
Our customers value us as their development partner for innovative drive solutions. Our internal development team accompanies each of these projects from design and development to series production. This guarantees an outstanding final result, both technically and economically. We have already developed countless drive solutions for numerous industries with our methods.
One of our longest-standing projects, of which we are particularly proud, is the highly complex 3-axis drive system for curved stairlifts, which we have continuously developed together with TK Home Solutions. The stair lift drive is already in its 4th generation and has been produced by Framo Morat for 25 years. Installing and operating a stairlift places high demands on the drive package, especially in narrow and steep staircases. The flexible guide rail and single-tube system are individually adapted to the conditions of the staircase. Thanks to the ultra-compact drive package, the entire lift can be designed in a minimal size. This means that a stairlift solution can be realized for almost all spatial conditions.
The drive package consists of the following drive components: The main drive moves the stairlift along the rail, while the level drive aligns the seat horizontally along the track. The optional seat swivel drive makes it easy to navigate narrow passages.
Special attributes and requirements:
- Exceptionally quiet operation thanks to BLDC motors and gear stages optimized for stringent NVH requirements (NVH = noise, vibration, harshness).
- Weight-optimized design through the use of lightweight metal housings and plastic components to facilitate transport and installation.
- Compact design for navigating narrow staircases and traveling small curve radii. The entire intricate structure blends into the living space seamlessly.
- Maximum safety as both the main drive and the leveling drive have mechanical safety devices to keep the passenger in a safe position at all times. The safety device for the leveling drive is also now patented, which provides further assurance of safety.
Every development project goes through several predefined stages with us. You benefit from:
- Extensive experience gained from numerous customer projects
- Close support throughout the project, from specification to application
- Development and production of a complete solution optimized for functionality and cost
- Highest quality in all our drives through in-house component manufacturing and assembly
