ECLASS - the only worldwide ISO/IEC-compliant data standard for products and services.
For electronic and automated data exchange, the use of a “common language” that is understood not only by humans but also by machines is absolutely essential. ECLASS is a globally recognized and standard-compliant standard for this purpose. ECLASS enables the uniform classification and clear description of products and services across all industries along the entire value chain - from development to sales and maintenance through to disposal.
With over 48,000 product classes and around 23,000 properties, ECLASS has established itself internationally and is already used by more than 4,000 companies worldwide. By using the ECLASS Standard, internal company processes can be optimized and collaboration with business partners can be made more efficient.
ECLASS e.V. publishes a new release every year in order to continuously adapt the standard to current and future market requirements. The new ECLASS Release 15.0 will be published on November 30, 2024.
One standard - 31 languages
In addition to extensive content enhancements, ECLASS 15.0 is the only data standard to offer content in 31 different languages, covering both European and international markets.
ECLASS content is now available in all European languages: In addition to the existing 17 languages, ECLASS content will be available in 14 more languages from Release 15.0, including Danish, Estonian, Greek, Latvian, Lithuanian, Slovenian, Ukrainian and Norwegian.
Green light for the digital battery passport
The digital battery passport is intended to promote the sustainability and transparency of batteries, reduce environmental impact and support the recycling of batteries.
The new contents of ECLASS 15.0 include important features in the new battery classes of the main group “Accumulator, Battery”. ECLASS Release 15.0 thus already provides all the necessary structures and features for the Digital Battery Passport.
New content in numerous other segments
Even during the development phase of ECLASS Release 15.0, significant content improvements became apparent across several segments. Here are some of the highlights:
- Segment 21 "Plant equiepment, tool"
- Segment 23 "Maschine element, fixing, mounting"
- Segment 27 "Electric engineering, automation, process controll engineering
- Segment 34 "Medical device"
- Segment 36 "Maschine, apparatus"
- restructuring of classes and addition of properties for industtrial robotics structures 27-38-01
Product information in accordance with the EU “Deforestation Regulation”
In order to counteract global deforestation and forest degradation, agricultural commodities must bear proof that they were produced without deforestation and forest degradation from the end of 2024. In addition to wood, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) also affects soy, cocoa, coffee, cattle and rubber as well as products derived from them, such as furniture and seals.
The ECLASS Environmental Footprint Working Group has already integrated the corresponding structures into the ECLASS standard as the standard aspect “Material declaration” for the information required by the EU regulation, so that these are available to users from ECLASS Release 15.0. In addition to the product information required by the EU Regulation, the new standard aspect “Material declaration” also contains information for products with critical ingredients.
The ECLASS association
The ECLASS e.V., founded in 2000, is a non-profit organization run by ordinary and supporting members of companies, associations and institutions from a wide variety of industries and trade sectors. Their common goal is to expand the ECLASS standard in line with current and future market requirements and promote its international application.

ECLASS Release 14.0
ECLASS Release 14.0 is the current ECLASS Release. It was published in November 2023.
Technical innovations in ECLASS 14.0:
With this upgrade, users have access to fully translated new language content, Asset Application Classes at each classification class, the revised level type and much more.
Translations
For Release 14.0, missing language content has been added with the help of the automatic translation tool DeepL. For the first time, complete translations of the content ("preferred names") can be provided in 15 of the 17 languages available in ECLASS.
Asset Administration Shell
In Release 14.0, Asset ACs were added to all classes on the fourth level if none were already available. The newly added Asset ACs have no content and are named "Asset (empty)". This means that ECLASS provides Asset ACs in all classes for the first time.
XML 4.0
The new ECLASS version is provided for the first time in the new XML schema 4.0. New features in the XML schema are a revised level type and the new range constraint property. The revised level type property can now reference up to four other single-level properties (MIN, MAX, TYP, NOM). The range constraint property is not product-specific and can restrict the range of properties. Furthermore, the "translation quality level" (TQL) attribute is derived with XML schema 4.0. The TQL marks the quality of the linguistic content and indicates how the content of the preferred name, or the definition of the structure element was created. A distinction is made between five language levels.

ECLASS 14.0 (Asset)
The Product
Since Release 13.0, the ECLASS Standard includes enhancements for the Asset Administration Shell (AAS). In terms of the data model, a new Application Class of type "Asset" has been introduced in addition to BASIC and ADVANCED.
In Release 13.0, Asset Application Classes were created for all classes on the fourth level in the segments 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 27, 28, 32, 33, 36, 49, 50 and 51. In addition, the so-called "submodel templates" for the AAS were created as aspects at the content level and were added to the Asset AC in these classes. In addition to the BASIC and ADVANCED representation, ECLASS e.V. publishes a derivation of the type "Asset". This contains all Asset Application Classes including the submodel template aspects.
New since ECLASS 14.0
In Release 14.0, Asset ACs were added to all classes on the fourth level if none were already available. The newly added Asset ACs have no content and are named "Asset (empty)". This means that ECLASS provides Asset ACs in all classes for the first time.
Furthermore, there are four new aspects for the Asset AC:
- "Technical data"
- "Carbon Footprint"
- "Service Request Notification"
- "Contact information"
ECLASS 14.0 (Asset) is free for all users; no order is required. This way you can activate the product yourself:
After entering the discount code "asset-153" under "My Profile", ECLASS 14.0 (Asset) is immediately available to all registered ECLASS users free of charge in the personal download area.
