Continuously optimizing with the Digital Enterprise

As a result of ongoing digitalization in industry, machine builders and plant engineers need greater flexibility to meet new requirements quickly and reliably. A consistently digitalized value chain makes this possible: the Digital Enterprise with the comprehensive Digital Twin.

The Digital Enterprise is Siemens’ unique portfolio of industrial software and automation technologies that seamlessly connects the virtual and real worlds with digital threads. It enables companies to meet the rapidly changing consumer trends by: Innovating faster, enable sustainable and flexible manufacturing and a continuous optimizing of products and production. With a comprehensive range of Digital Enterprise Services, customers receive targeted support on the path to digital transformation - from Consulting and Implementation to Optimization during operation.

Three practical examples from real machines demonstrate the benefits of consistent, end-to-end digitalization of the entire value chain. The Digital Twin product or machine enables parallel work across disciplines and to use simulations for early testing and validation. Thanks to virtual commissioning with the Digital Twin production, the real commissioning of a machine or entire production lines can take place faster and with less risk.

The fully integrated Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) portfolio supports the efficient development and implementation of machines and lines. Interconnected software solutions and the Module Type Packages (MTP) cross-industry automation standard enable new machines to be integrated flexibly in existing lines with plug and play. The Digital Twin performance allows to map and analyze data from operation, as is shown with a packaging machine from TrakRap.

The complete end-to-end approach can also be seen in the area of machine tools, which is apparent from the example of a newly developed, robot-based 3D printing system, the AM Flexbot. With the Digital Enterprise, machine builders and plant engineers can respond quickly to changing requirements with a new level of flexibility.
